Plus Ultra Utrecht is located in Utrecht Science Park: a high-quality, sustainable working environment where knowledge institutions, start-ups and innovative companies come together. For this project, we supplied various lighting solutions, including several customised luminaires that are fully tailored to the architectural and technical requirements of the building.
The sustainability goals were ambitious. The building was constructed with the aim of achieving BREEAM certification at the ‘Outstanding’ level. Various products used in the construction are listed in the National Environmental Database (NMD), which demonstrates their contribution to the building's environmental performance. Lighting played a key role in this.
What type of lighting was used?
Vesper
The architect wanted to work with high-quality wooden ceilings from Hunter Douglas Derako®. These ceilings have a very limited installation height of only 15 millimetres. This ultra-thin luminaire blends seamlessly into the ceiling design without compromising on lighting comfort or aesthetics. It also complies with the UGR-19 standard.
Custom-made linear lighting
In the atrium, continuous linear lighting visually connects the different floors. The luminaires are extra long and were specially manufactured for this project.
Custom-made Cortina band grid luminaires
Our custom-made Cortina luminaire was selected for the grid systems. This solution fits perfectly into the grid structure, but requires extremely precise tolerances. Using special measuring tools and strict incoming inspections, we ensure that each luminaire meets the specifications exactly. This prevents stress on the grid system and ensures an elegant, seamless finish without gaps or height differences.
Thanks to this quality control, the installer can be sure of a smooth installation and a perfect end result.
