Sustainable innovation at the Science Park

Located at the Science Park in Utrecht is Plus Ultra Utrecht: a high-quality, sustainable work environment where research institutions, startups, and innovative companies come together. For this project, we supplied a variety of lighting solutions, including several custom-designed fixtures, all fully tailored to the building’s architectural and technical requirements.

The sustainability goals were ambitious. The building was designed with the aim of achieving BREEAM Outstanding certification. Several of the products used are listed in the National Environmental Database (NMD), which demonstrates their contribution to the building’s environmental performance. Lighting played an essential role in this.

What type of lighting was used?

Vesper
The architect wanted to work with Hunter Douglas Derako® high-quality wood ceilings. These ceilings have a very low installation height of just 15 millimeters.
This ultra-thin fixture integrates seamlessly into the ceiling design without compromising on lighting comfort or aesthetics. It also complies with the UGR-19 standard.

Custom-made linear lighting
In the atrium, continuous linear lighting visually connects the different floors. The fixtures are available in extra-long lengths and are manufactured entirely to project specifications.

Custom Cortina strip light fixtures
For the strip grids, we selected our custom-made Cortina fixture. This solution fits perfectly within the grid structure but requires extremely precise tolerances. Using specialized measuring tools and strict incoming inspections, we ensure that every fixture meets specifications exactly. This prevents stress on the strip grid and ensures a clean, seamless finish without gaps or height differences.

Thanks to this quality control, the installer can be confident of a smooth installation and a perfect end result.
