In several European countries, there is growing discussion about the use of fire-resistant downlights.
Ceilings help slow the spread of fire in the unfortunate event of a fire. When holes are cut in the ceiling—for example, for lighting—this creates a potential pathway through which fire can spread more quickly within buildings.
A fire-rated downlight has been rigorously tested for fire resistance and restores the integrity of the ceiling. This gives occupants more time to evacuate once the fire alarm sounds and increases the likelihood of preserving the building.
Starting this year, Illuxtron offers the option to equip various luminaires with fire-rating tubes. This accessory causes the back panel to expand when heated, creating a seal in the ceiling that lasts for 60 minutes (longer upon request). The fire-rating tube can be used with all fixtures equipped with wire springs with hole size or 90, as well as the Pointer 40 and 68 Adjustable models.
