The Netherlands is implementing increasingly strict sustainability requirements. For new and non-residential buildings larger than 100 m², it is mandatory to calculate the Environmental Performance of Buildings (MPG). This score indicates the environmental impact of building materials, including lighting, based on data from the National Environmental Database (NMD). We are proud to announce that we are the first lighting manufacturer to be approved and registered in the NMD. Additionally, our second product, the MIYO Vesper, is now also listed in the database.
What is the Dutch Environmental Database (NMD)?
The National Environmental Database contains independent, government-managed LCA data for construction products and forms the basis for the MPG calculation. Over the past two years, our R&D department has invested in LCA training, enabling us to prepare our products for inclusion in full compliance with the standard. Our first luminaire was officially added on 6 June 2025.

What is a life cycle assessment (LCA)?
A life cycle assessment (LCA) evaluates the environmental impact of a product throughout its entire life cycle, from the acquisition of raw materials and production to transportation, usage, and end-of-life disposal or recycling. This analysis is essential for inclusion in the National Metadata Database (NMD). It must be conducted by an expert or a trained producer. Following this, the LCA is reviewed by an independent expert recognized by the NMD. Only after receiving approval is the environmental performance data officially published in the National Environmental Database.
Which Illuxtron products are included?
The Cortina 1720 × 100 has been listed in the NMD since June 2025, and the MIYO Vesper, including a customised version for a large project, has been listed since August. Several Vesper variants and the LED Panel B will follow this quarter.
And what about BREEAM?
he NMD data not only contributes to an accurate MPG score, but also supports BREEAM certification. BREEAM assesses the sustainability of buildings on various themes, including material use. By offering products with reliable LCA data in the NMD, we make it easier for construction projects to achieve higher BREEAM scores.
